When someone is in your life for a reason it’s usually to meet a need you have expressed. They’ve come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend, and they are. They’re there for the reason you need them to be. Then without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die, sometimes they walk away, sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it’s time to move on. When people come into your life for a season it’s because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you’ve never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it – it’s real but only for a season. Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you’ve learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It’s sad that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life.

You should never second-guess the motives of your true friends. You don’t even have to analyze their actions because you know, at bottom, that whatever they do, say, or think flows in some fundamental way from the fact that they love you.

When we honestly ask ourselves which people in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.

True friendship is seen with the eyes. It is felt with the heart when there is trust, understanding, secrets, loyalty, and sharing.
